Farah is a bilingual art therapist and counselor practicing from a cross-cultural understanding, and providing counseling in both English and Arabic. Farah’s art therapy and counseling practice is centered within an intersectional feminist and social justice lens, a trauma-informed approach, client-centered and a relational-cultural framework. Farah focuses on a body-centered approach which incorporates Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Art Therapy, mindfulness, to facilitate a mind-body connection in a non-judgmental safe processing space. Farah has offered services in clinical and community-based settings. Her clinical experience includes working with groups, families and individuals experiencing anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, domestic, sexual and gender-based violence survivors, refugees, and immigrants. Farah offers services to children ages 7+, teenagers, young and middle-aged adults.
Farah views the therapeutic relationship as a space to model and practice building healthy relationships so that clients can implement this learning in their day-to-day relationships with others and the world around them. She is especially eager to support clients in practicing boundary setting for self and others, as well as finding assertive and healthy ways to communicate their authentic truth. Additionally, she is able to support participants who are struggling to get out of unhealthy relationships through emotional and physical safety planning. To achieve this, an essential part of her approach is collaborating with clients on figuring out what works for their needs by setting goals together to work towards in therapy. By working within the client’s window of tolerance to triggers, she supports clients into identifying their strengths and tapping into them as tools to navigate their life’s journey and increasing their ability to tolerate, cope with and better handle hard moments that life presents us with. Farah is passionate about also celebrating in reclaiming their autonomy, embodying their sense of agency and in taking ownership of their story. Farah believes that therapy can encourage creating a consistent time and space for clients to create a ritual out of showing up for themselves and to grow closer to self-compassion.
Farah’s multidisciplinary clinical interests include implementing body-centered techniques from Somatic Experiencing, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, considering the role of eco-psychology, developing, and implementing self-regulation tools to calm the nervous system, and art therapy creative prompts.
