About Me

Bria approaches mental health with a deep understanding of individual uniqueness and self-value, eschewing the pursuit of perfection. Transitioning from a budding psychological researcher to a therapist, her personal experiences with burnout and imposter syndrome redirected her focus towards empowering marginalized communities. Bria utilizes a blend of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches, with a focus on BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients, to foster resilience and self-understanding in the face of daily challenges and life transitions.

“Why is being an adult so hard right now?” “If they can do it, why can’t I?” “I wish I could be someone else.” It can be so easy to get caught up in other people’s ideas of perfection. But not being able to reach those expectations does not mean there is something wrong with us, we just need a change in perspective. As a therapist, Bria is not trying to “fix” clients, but is guiding them in understanding their own value as a unique human being.

Originally studying to be a psychological researcher, Bria started an undergraduate project at Eastern Michigan University that analyzed racial biases amongst young adults. After concluding the study however, Bria felt discouraged thinking of the ongoing challenges of marginalized people within predominantly white institutions. She also experienced major burnout and imposter syndrome, which led her to see an on-campus therapist. This time for self-reflection changed her perspective on how she can support her communities within the realm of mental health.

Once Bria knew she wanted to be a therapist, she enrolled in National Louis University and  sought out an externship at Malcolm X City College. She gained ample experience in helping BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ college students empower themselves while managing academic and career stress. She also co-led a group centered around BIPOC college students who are navigating independence while living with their parents. Bria’s passion for working with these populations led her to a post-graduate position at a private practice in South Chicago. Not only did she continue to work with these populations, but also discovered that a combination Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy and Psychodynamic modalities were effective in navigating life transitions, relational conflicts, self-image and childhood trauma. Using a Multicultural lens, Bria acknowledges the barriers her clients face on a daily basis and affirms their need to live the life they want to.

Bria’s approach to therapy is grounded in building a strong therapeutic relationship. She wants to get to know clients as individuals and provide the judgment-free space to show up authentically. She welcomes therapy beginners and encourages all her clients to speak their truth. She wants to work with clients to get to the root of their behaviors and understand not only what holds them back but what guides them forward. Bria encourages you to love yourself and embrace the qualities that are meaningful to you.
