Naseem Saleh, MA, LPC, is a second-generation, queer, Palestinian psychotherapist who is deeply passionate about supporting first- and second-generation Arabs, BIPOC individuals, queer and non-binary people, and those navigating multicultural relationships and systems. Raised by Palestinian immigrants of the Arab diaspora and born in the United States, Naseem experienced the challenges of feeling safe and welcomed, often feeling as though they were living a double life. Navigating life in the U.S. as an Arab presented unique challenges, particularly in balancing family expectations and Western cultural differences.

Growing up in a strict Muslim environment, mental health was rarely discussed within Naseem’s household. The expectation to bottle up emotions and conform to cultural norms made it difficult for them to embrace their authentic self. In their cultural upbringing, the focus was primarily on physical well-being. However, through self-reflection and education, Naseem developed a deep appreciation for the profound connection between mental and physical health. This realization inspired them to pursue a career in mental health counseling, with a mission to destigmatize mental health discussions within marginalized communities, including their own. Furthermore, witnessing the lack of access to mental health resources in Palestine solidified their commitment to this path.

Naseem earned their bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler University. They also hold a certificate in sex therapy from Adler University. Throughout their clinical experiences, Naseem has had the privilege of working with individuals from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disability communities, providing support for those facing difficult life transitions, relationship challenges (including infidelity), gender identity exploration, grief and loss, and trauma, including racial and generational trauma.

Naseem is committed to providing clients with culturally sensitive understanding, privacy, and the freedom to explore their thoughts, dreams, and mental health needs without fear of judgment. They strive to create a collaborative and conversational environment where clients’ needs and experiences guide the therapeutic process. With a strong belief that the human experience is shaped by the intersection of the person and the systems in which they live, Naseem avoids pathologizing clients. Instead, they focus on helping clients unravel ingrained beliefs and explore pathways to healing, empowering them to navigate and support themselves through life’s challenges.
